Purity of Seed: Cleanout
Over the past couple of months, I set a goal to visit some seed growers in Saskatchewan before the spring rush. It always seems like there aren't enough hours in a week, but I was fortunate to see several. One topic that frequently came up was the meticulous cleaning process between seed lots. It's clear to see the time, diligence, and pride seed growers take to ensure seed purity.
Indent cylinders, a crucial part of seed processing, are used across various commodities like grains and legumes to remove unwanted short or long material. However, the cleaning process can be challenging depending on the specific model and installation location.
We have discussed some advantages for the Cimbria Heid Indents in the past. Ryan Floyde did this article a few months ago.
In this article in regards to the Indent cylinders in your plant I wanted to focus on a few well respected options customers have told me they appreciate.
-
Proper Slope kit. In a round over long seed grower set up the proper slope kit to maintain accuracy and assist in clean out needs to be discussed. Considering the commodities cleaned and capacity. I recently had a grower increase his slope a little to assist in cleanout.
-
Inlet end and Outlet end sanitation ports. Simple option that allows a customer to get an airwand in to chase out seed like flax or other stubborn seeds.
Customers who own Cimbria Heid Indent Cylinders appreciate the ability to remove one section of the Cylinder through a quick large access door. This exposes the complete separation area and the trough in just a few minutes.
With a section of segment out you can turn the trough upside down and rotate the cylinder, this will empty the cylinder to the bottom, a quick removal of the bottom clean out door shown below your indent will empty.
At the 2024 Crop Production show this past January, Nexeed Inc had a set of Cimbria Heid 12020 indents on display, 3 meter units are our most popular size with Seed Growers. Several good conversations were had about this clean out simplicity and effectiveness. Less is More in our previous article rang true with current owners, and potential new owners.
During follow-up conversations and plant visits after this year's show, discussions about optimizing process flow and photos showcasing successful installations are always helpful. Existing customers often share insights on what they would do differently if they were starting over. These insights prove invaluable for new customers. Good access or a well-designed stand, along with ease of sample checking, are always topics of discussion.
Air aspiration channel. 425 CFM per cylinder supplied by in house air makes a significant difference in the amount of dust, keeping your outlet wheel area much cleaner. This of course comes standard with our Indents, but talking about install area and availability of CFM is important. I had the window off one day for a video. Check out the Twitter (X) post below.
